A standard rule of thumb is that when the foot is in the stirrup, there is room for your index finger to be placed on either side of boot. Generally, a ladies size 7 boot can be either a 4 1/2" or a 4 3/4." Very petite women and children use a 4 1/4." stirrup, while very small children may require a size smaller. Most men wear a 4 3/4".
